At a 2016 gathering of the National Credit Union Advisory Council, the question was raised: Why hasn’t credit union market share increased nationally beyond 7% in nearly three decades? Thus was the impetus for the industry’s “Open Your Eyes to a Credit Union” awareness initiative, now known as “Your Money Further.”
Can you believe our awareness initiative will celebrate its five-year anniversary at the end of this year? Launched on January 1, 2019, the program has grown and developed from two distinct marketing campaigns to a well-established consumer brand that reaches millions and millions of consumers each year. Since the program’s launch, credit union market share has grown, consumer awareness and consideration has leaped ahead, while Your Money Further has become a top consumer financial resource delivering consumer leads and brand exposure directly to participating credit unions. What an amazing journey, thanks to your tremendous support and participation! Here in the Dakotas, we have taken the campaign local with our State-Wide Awareness Program, or “SWAP.” Our efforts have included Gas Station TV (GSTV) ads across both states for a good portion of the past two summers. We have also utilized both stationary and electronic billboards, online and printed newspapers, in addition to laser-focused digital geofencing ads in areas where we have participating credit unions.
