Political Fundraising
With the threat of taxation always looming, it is more important than ever to ensure our lawmakers understand the differences between not-for-profit credit unions and other types of financial institutions. Your association actively seeks to engage members and elected officials in grassroots advocacy by raising and distributing funds through two political action committees, CUPAC and CULAC. Thankfully, these funds have been helping to build a strong credit union political backbone for many years.
CUPAC is the state Political Action Committee (PAC) for Dakota Credit Union Association, registered with the Secretary of State in both South Dakota and North Dakota. CULAC is the federal Legislative Action Council for the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and is the national PAC that contributes to our federal candidates with heavy input from the Dakota Credit Union Association. Each are run by a board of trustees made up of credit union professionals and volunteers.
Donations to CUPAC/CULAC are used to support credit union friendly candidates in their bids for state and federal office.

Holiday Raffle
The Credit Union Political Action Committee (CUPAC) and Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC) are vehicles through which a credit union advocate can actively participate in advancing the future of the credit union industry. One of the charges of our Government Affairs Committees (GAC) is to raise donations and awareness for our CUPAC/CULAC funds. Contributions are put to use helping elect candidates who understand the credit union difference and who will fight to ensure that credit unions remain the best financial services option for consumers. Candidate support decisions are based firmly on the support of credit unions without regard to party affiliation.
The GAC is again coordinating the CUPAC/CULAC Holiday Raffle, which will kick-off November 1st and run through December 1st! Tickets and promotional materials including the 2021 FAQs, poster, and contribution spread sheet will be sent out to credit unions with a signed permission agreement on file in mid-October, so keep an eye on your mailbox. The same information is available to view and download on our website here.
In an attempt to maximize our fundraising efforts, the GAC is asking for your support. We will be awarding $5,000 in raffle prizes once again this year, which are annually funded through generous credit union corporate contributions. We are asking credit unions to consider donating between $100 - $1,000, to help us reach our goal. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated and go a long way in supporting our advocacy efforts here in the Dakotas. Raffle tickets much be purchased from a participating credit union.
