by Shawn Marie Brummer, Communications Specialist Healthcare Plus FCU is one of four Dakota credit unions that received a grant last summer from the Dakota Credit Union Foundation to help bring the Zogo financial education app to their members. After getting the initial setup accomplished, including adopting an introductory plan, this credit union moved forward quickly with their rollout. First, they added general information, as well as an introductory video and links to their website homepage. In addition, Zogo was featured on the credit union’s Facebook page. Initially, they had just a handful of active users; however, with a contest tied into International Credit Union Day along with additional promotions on Facebook, the credit union has seen steady increase in member engagement. “I know internally, we like it – and we think it’s educational,” said Guy Trenhaile, President of Healthcare Plus FCU. “We have already shared the new educational platform in our member newsletter, and our plan is to continue to mention it via multiple outlets to continue to build up the numbers.”
On a personal level, Trenhaile shared that his two sons, ages 19 and 23, have joined in the fun. While this surprised Trenhaile and his staff, what they have since learned is that the majority of their users are age 35 or over! The app was originally designed for teens, or “Zoomers,” however, Zogo has continually added more modules, with many of them geared for the mature audience. As for their ICU Day Zogo contest, Healthcare Plus FCU more than tripled their member usage! At the conclusion of the contest, they rewarded the top three users with cash gift cards – beyond what the players earned by completing the modules! “Several of our members that participated in the contest sent us messages in the app or mentioned it when they called in the next time,” stated Misti Taylor, MSR at Healthcare Plus. “All the comments were positive, and we were frequently told that the app was fun to use and had taught them valuable lessons. One user even told us she started taking notes as she worked through the modules, as she was learning so much and didn’t want to forget,” Taylor added. Similar to the results that United Savings Credit Union reported, Healthcare Plus has received feedback from their analytics dashboard showing that 91 percent of their own users believe the app has improved their financial literacy. To keep the momentum going, the credit union plans to continue with social media promotions, future contests, and mentioning the app during account openings. They are confident they will continue to grow their user base! For more information about the award-winning Zogo financial education mobile app, click here.
