During National Credit Union Youth Month in April, credit unions across the nation help teach and encourage kids to develop good financial habits. DakCU was pleased to see so many of our member credit union using this time of celebration to engage kids across the Dakotas, to help them learn that saving, no matter how small the amount, can help them achieve their dreams.
Credit unions are great at sharing ideas, so here are a few we noticed that you might want to put in your pocket for future use during #CUYouthMonth. Dakotaland FCU (Huron, SD) held a coloring contest for young members, and offered FREE lifetime membership for new accounts. They also awarded door prizes and served treats at all branches on April 20, and new checking accounts were also entered for a chance to win $50. Dakota Plains CU (Edgeley, ND) offered a “Youth Month CD Special” and offered free piggy banks to all new Pee Wee accounts! They also held a “Youth Party” on April 26 with fun food and games. Flasher Community CU hosted the local 1st grade class for a piggy bank decorating bonanza. The credit union displayed the art for the entire month. Healthcare Plus FCU (Aberdeen, SD) held a coloring contest with special prizes. They also celebrated Easter with a special Easter egg filled with prizes given to young members who deposited $5 or more. M-O FCU (Huron, SD) offered Youth Month specials for the entire month of April. Each $10 deposited into a youth account received an entry into a drawing for a Visa gift card, in addition to receiving a “grab bag” of prizes. New accounts opened with $50 minimum also received a $10 bonus deposit. North Star Community CU (Maddock, ND) did something entirely unique this year! They had a lemonade stand at their Grafton Branch with a free will donation benefiting Sanford Children’s Hospital; and they also held bake sales at multiple branches including Minot, Rugby, Velva, Bottineau, Devils Lake, and Maddock, all benefitting our CMN Hospital. Oahe FCU (Pierre, SD) rewarded youth account holders by entering them into a prize drawing for every deposit made in April. United Savings CU (Fargo, ND) is holding youth prize drawings for young savers making a deposit (or opening a new account) at the end of the month – including for a Ninetendo Switch and Amazon Kid’s Tablet. Thanks to the many credit unions that helped "Unleash the Power of Saving" all through April and Youth Month! Comments are closed.
