During National Credit Union Youth Month in April, credit unions across the nation help teach and encourage kids to develop good financial habits. DakCU was pleased to see so many of our member credit union using this time of celebration to engage kids across the Dakotas, to help them learn that saving, no matter how small the amount, can help them achieve their dreams.
Credit unions are great at sharing ideas, so here are a few we noticed that you might want to put in your pocket for future use during #CUYouthMonth. Bluestone FCU (Sioux Falls, SD) celebrated with “April Foolishness.” Members 12 and under received a free gift for stopping in any of the branch locations. The credit union also hid decorated rocks around the community and posted clues on their Facebook page where they could be found, with one specially marked rock generating a special grand prize! Dakotaland FCU (Huron, SD) is holding a $100 prize drawing for one lucky winner who opens an account in either April or May. Plus, the credit union is providing the initial $5 deposit required to open an account for youth savers ages 18 and under. Dakota Plains CU (Edgeley, ND) celebrated with a Youth CD Special for ages 0 – 19, offering a 12-month term at 0.90% APY. The offer included unlimited deposits up to $5,000 maximum. Healthcare Plus FCU (Aberdeen, SD) offered “Save Small, Dream Big” coloring sheets and then displayed the artwork at the credit union. M-O FCU (Huron, SD) gave away prizes (two for Pee Wee members and two for Teen Club members) with an entry for each deposit made during Youth Month. Each new youth account opened received five entries! The credit union also mailed out Youth Month coloring sheets and each young member who returned a completed sheet was entered into the prize drawing as well. On April 25th for World Penguin Day, the credit union handed out penguin suckers and all staff dressed in black and white. “We’re really trying to treat our youth members this month,” stated Tiffanie Kouf, Marketing Coordinator. “Throughout the month we handed out penguin bouncy balls, Pee Wee tattoos, Pee Wee bookmarks, and Easter eggs filled with candy; in addition to circus-themed goodie bags and small bottles of bubbles!” North Star Community CU (Maddock, ND) celebrated with a variety of activities, including a kick-off party coloring contest, a “car coin” collection and “couch coin” collection, with grand prize drawings held at each branch location and $50 deposited to each winner’s Pee Wee Young Savers account. They also used Youth Month as an opportunity to promote the ZOGO Financial Literacy app that the credit union offers. Oahe FCU (Pierre, SD) gave away some amazing prizes! Each deposit a young member made gave them an entry into the drawing. Voyage FCU (Sioux Falls, SD) handed out adorable Piggy Banks to young members with the credit union’s logo. Comments are closed.
