Dakota Credit Union Association (DakCU) hosted a virtual CEO Town Hall on Thursday, April 1st where several exciting announcements were made, including updates on legislative and advocacy work in North and South Dakota and important regulatory matters.
Jeff Olson, President/CEO provided an update on our upcoming Annual Summit, during which he shared a message from Michael Burger, one of our Summit keynote speakers. Registrations are rolling in and staff is excited to see many of you in Fargo May 3 – 4. He also made an exciting announcement regarding an upcoming “Thank Your Bank or Credit Union Month” collaborative awareness initiative organized by the Bank of North Dakota. This will be a statewide effort to recognize the outstanding efforts that financial institutions have made in North Dakota to keep the economy going during the pandemic. Jay Kruse, Chief Advocacy Officer, provided an update of the South Dakota Legislative Session that ended on March 29th. On the Federal Advocacy side, we had very successful CULAC Sweepstakes fundraising for the Dakotas during the Virtual GAC. He also provided a recap of our recent virtual Hike the Hill meetings and reminded attendees of a few more upcoming meetings, including an in-person meeting with Senator Cramer that still has four spots open. Finally, in an exciting announcement, we will be holding a virtual “Silent Irish Auction” for this year’s Summit so more people will be able to participate! Additional details will be coming very soon. Kayla Pulvermacher, State Legislative Director, also weighed in with her insight from the North Dakota Legislative Session. Our DakCU Legislative Team monitored 32 bills and testified 15 times, and she thanked attendees for the outstanding support we received through Action Alerts that were issued during the session. Amy Kleinschmit, Chief Compliance Officer invited everyone to attend the next Small CU Webinar hosted by DakCU next Tuesday, April 6. She provided an overview of recent important compliance updates, comment letters, and policy statements. Be sure to read her “members only” compliance update in the Memo today for specific information. In closing, George McDonald, Chief Officer of Strategic Services, provided an update on educational opportunities on our 2021 calendar. He introduced Jim Kasch from Canidae Consulting, one of our featured speakers who will be presenting breakout sessions on Strategy and Leadership at this year’s Summit in Fargo. Under our recent agreement, Canidae Consulting becomes a preferred provider of strategic planning services right here in the Dakotas.
