Staff from multiple credit unions in the Huron, SD area teamed up as the South Dakota Central Chapter of Credit Unions to collect food, toiletry items, and household cleaning products for the Helping Hands Food Pantry. Pictured above are a few members of the Central Chapter with four cartloads displaying some of the items they donated. Helping Hands also operates a thrift store with proceeds going to support the food pantry. Earlier this fall, chapter members volunteered to fill bags for the Backpack Program, which is organized by the Heartland Region United Way. Shown below are several occasions when chapter volunteers stepped up to fulfill this local need! The chapter also recently presented a monetary donation to the Beadle County Humane Society (BCHS). A raffle fundraiser was held which raised $535 to assist shelter animals in need. The BCHS is located just South of Huron but serves all of Beadle Country and surrounding areas. In addition to sheltering animals, the BCHS provides animal control services for Huron and surrounding communities, as well as emergency assistance to communities that experience natural disasters. The SD Central Chapter of Credit Unions is made up of six credit unions, which include Dakotaland FCU, M-O FCU, HB Telco FCU, Huron Area Education FCU, Dakota Rail Line FCU, all of Huron, and Oahe FCU of Pierre. The Pierre branch of Black Hills FCU is an associate chapter member.
