Members of the South Dakota Central Chapter of Credit Unions recently made a $500 donation to the Jan Manolis Family Safe Center, a domestic violence shelter located in Huron, South Dakota.
Ending domestic violence can be a hard struggle for victims who have been rendered powerless and afraid in their own homes. The Jan Manolis Family Safe Center provides a safe and comfortable environment for victims of domestic abuse, offering shelter and services for the victims to build self-esteem and confidence so they may live freely and independently. To provide this donation, the Central Chapter raised funds through a 50/50 drawing. Chapter members could purchase raffle tickets, and then a drawing was held for cash prizes with half of the proceeds being used for the charitable donation. Credit unions that participated in the fundraiser included: Dakotaland Federal Credit Union; Dakota Rail Line Federal Credit Union; HB Telco FCU; Huron Area Education FCU; M-O Federal Credit Union (all from Huron, SD) and Oahe Federal Credit Union (from Pierre, SD).
