Two staff members of Northern Hills FCU (Sturgis, SD) recently completed compliance certifications in Q4 of 2021. Congratulations to: Marty Willms, Vice President of Administration and Operations earned her recertification as a Credit Union Compliance Expert (CUCE). The CUCE designation signifies commitment to understanding the regulations and their implications, staying current with the latest compliance regulations, being connected within the compliance network to keep the credit union compliant, and to be recognized as experts in their field. Willms was required to complete the Credit Union National Association CUCE eSchool program. She earned her Business Administration Degree from Black Hills State University, and has worked in the financial services sector for 37 years, and specifically with credit unions for 23 years. Drew Gertsch, Compliance Clerk, earned his Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Specialist (BSACS) designation. The designation signifies commitment to identifying the latest form of illicit financial activities and understanding evolving Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Laws. To receive the designation, Gertsch was required to compete the Credit Union National Association BSA/AML eSchool program and pass the exam. Gertsch earned his degree in Business Administration from Augustana University and is currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Applied Management from Black Hills State University. He has worked at NHFCU just over one year as a Service Associate and was quickly promoted to his current position. Gertsch has also completed the CUNA Cannabis & Hemp Financial Services eSchool and will serve as the credit union’s compliance specialist for the NHFCU cannabis account services.
