Dakotas’ GAC Crashers made a grand entrance bearing our state flags during the opening ceremonies at the CUNA GAC on Monday in Washington, DC. Crashers are selected through a highly competitive process, and these two Dakota credit union professionals were chosen from the largest applicant pool of credit union rising leaders in the program’s 14-year history! Representing North Dakota was Nanci Wilson, Marketing & Community Engagement Director from University FCU, Grand Forks. Nanci was escorted by Jon Griffin, Chief Lending Officer from Capital CU (Bismarck, ND.) Representing South Dakota was Drew Gertsch, VP of Risk Management from Northern Hills FCU, Sturgis, SD. Drew was escorted by Chad Moller, Chief Growth Officer from Dakotaland FCU (Brookings, SD). “We are very pleased that we have such great representation at the GAC this year from our up-and-coming Dakota credit union leaders,” said Jeff Olson, DakCU President/CEO. “The best way to ensure the continued success of our movement is to capture the attention, dedication, and enthusiasm of future leaders. The Crasher program does just that, and also provides a way for young credit union professionals to expand their industry network – making connections, gaining confidence and insight that can benefit them for years to come.” *Photos below show Jeff with each Crasher just prior to the grand procession. Did you know we have a Crasher opportunity for our 2023 Summit in May? Click here for more information. This year’s GAC attendance is at record numbers, with more than 5,500 credit union advocates gathering to attend the premier industry event. As current board chair of the AACUL, Jeff Olson appeared on the “big stage” on Monday afternoon during the general session. In his remarks, Olson provided an update on what the AACUL has done over the past year, uniting the crowd by saying, “This is how we roll – always working together towards something better. Thank you for improving lives and advancing communities.” *Photos below show Jeff Olson on the big stage with league presidents from across the country. In addition, Olson participated in an “Advocacy Update” panel discussion moderated by CUNA’s Jason Stverak, to highlight the strength of the CUNA/League advocacy power. Olson brought his advocacy perspectives to the discussion, particularly in the area of field of membership (FOM). He shared his experience and insights in regard to the FOM modernization legislation, SB 2266, that is currently under consideration in the North Dakota House after passing in the ND Senate. Other topics included overdraft protection, junk fees and interchange. Tomorrow, our Dakota credit union advocacy group will be visiting Capitol Hill for meetings scheduled with all six of our Dakota delegation. Stay tuned to the Memo for more “Hike the Hill” exclusive coverage on Thursday!
