Legislative Update with Jay Kruse

While political activity this week is much slower, big news as federal judge voids public transportation mask mandate. Plus, Summit Silent Auction items are still needed!
Good Morning!

There’s not a ton of political activity this week as both the House and Senate continue their Easter/Passover recess, spending some time back home in-district. The big news this week actually came out of the state of Florida. On Monday, U.S. District Court Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle voided the Biden administration's public transportation mask mandate, which required all travelers to mask up while using public transportation such as airplanes and Uber/Lift.

Let us all rejoice and celebrate common sense! Prior to Judge Kimball Mizelle’s decision, the mandate was set to expire on May 3rd after an April CDC extension. The Biden administration has appealed the ruling and appears willing to fight to preserve the CDC’s power and keep Americans masked, at least in some way, far into 2022.

Summit Silent Action Prizes Needed
Can you believe Q1 of 2022 is already over, and the Summit is just over two weeks away?! This year is flying by, and in a few short weeks we will be enjoying golf and the beautiful Black Hills!

However, we are still looking for silent auction prize donations to benefit our Roger Heacock GAC-HTH Scholarship. This scholarship was created to honor Roger Heacock’s servant leadership and longtime commitment to credit union advocacy and grassroots engagement by providing financial assistance to DakCU members that wish to attend the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) or the DakCU Legislative/Regulatory Hike the Hill (HTH).

That's why we need your help to keep this scholarship funded far into the future, by not only donating an item – but purchasing a few as well! To donate an item OR scope out all the items that have already been donated, just use your phone to scan the QR code below or visit this link: https://dakcu.cbo.io

Our goal is to keep this scholarship active for many years to come and continue to establish it as one of the premier awards and forms of recognition that a member of the Dakota Credit Union Association can receive! To make this happen, we must continue to fund and support the scholarship each year through our annual Summit Silent Auction. We hope to continue to grow the Roger Heacock Scholarship fund to new levels to provide us with the opportunity to increase the number and dollar amount of the scholarships offered.

By supporting the Silent Auction and Gift Card Raffle, you are supporting your peers and our credit union advocacy efforts! As always, thank you for your continued support, and don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.
