![]() Good morning! Things are fairly quiet this week in Washington following last week’s election. Nationally, there is 1 Senate seat still to be decided and 9 in the House. It appears that the Democrats will retain control of the Senate and House majority will slightly flip into Republican control by a much tighter margin than once expected. Of note, the Senate will continue consideration of the National Defense Authorization Act this week, while both chambers are also expected to hold organizational meetings in anticipation of the 118th Congress. South Dakota Legislative Leadership South Dakota legislators have wasted little time in selecting their leadership for the upcoming 2023 legislative session. Senate leadership in both the Senate and House has been determined for both parties. House Democrats have also completed the process, so now we just wait on the House GOP to host their elections this weekend. The 2023 CUPAC/CULAC Holiday Sweepstakes is in full swing, and if your credit union has a signed permission agreement on file with us, I’m sure you are well aware. We have been sending multiple messages to your inbox this month reminding you to participate in this extremely important fundraiser. We understand you probably already get more emails that you want, and I promise we aren’t trying to annoy or spam your inbox. This short one-month long fundraiser just plays an extremely important role in our annual advocacy efforts, ensuring credit unions have a voice and a seat at the table in Pierre and Bismarck. This is the first year we have taken the campaign digital, and sales have been a bit slow. However, we want to assure you that 100% of the funds raised through this sweepstakes still go toward supporting pro-credit union local candidates and elected officials in their bids for office. The recent election put a big dent in those funds, as it does every two years, and it’s important we continue to replenish our funds – especially with a few potentially key legislative issues arising in 2023, including ESG, Interchange, and FOM. So thank you in advance for your support, and good luck! Who couldn’t use a little “extra” cash just before Christmas? Get your tickets here! Sweepstakes highlights Cash prize drawings from a total of $5,000!
