Last Thursday was International Credit Union (ICU) Day, and we hope you enjoyed the occasion with some fun and recognition. Our cooperative industry does so many great things to improve the lives of credit union members and communities all across the Dakotas – every day, every week and month, year after year. Remember to share those stories! As Lindsey Hefta pointed out in her article on Friday, “In this hyperconnected world where we rely on complete strangers’ reviews of a restaurant or clothing company, a single recommendation or positive meeting with your credit union from a KNOWN source is immeasurable!”
We did a little “Facebook Creeping” to see how you were recognizing the day, and here are some of the posts we found. Enjoy, and keep sharing your stories! Explorers Credit Union held a coloring contest for young members and also served up fresh popcorn with a variety of seasonings at all four branch locations! Aspire Credit Union surprised members with free car washes and movie tickets as they were stopping by to conduct business. They also paid it forward with “random acts of kindness” by purchasing meals, coffees, specialty drinks and treats for unsuspecting shoppers throughout the day. Fort Randall Federal Credit Union served up a tasty free lunch of BBQ pork sandwiches, chips, and a cookie for their members! North Star Community Credit Union served up cake with an ICU Day theme and held a bake sale with proceeds going to Sanford Children’s Hospital in Fargo. Sioux Valley Co-op Federal Credit Union served goodies and also proudly displayed their Executive Proclamation signed by Governor Kristi Noem. Consumer’s Federal Credit Union celebrated by serving a free lunch of hotdogs, chips, and a beverage. Hometown Credit Union celebrated in each of their branches with refreshments and giveaways and focused on the reasons why credit unions are different from other financial institutions. Capital Credit Union staff delivered treats to area high schools to thank them for supporting financial literacy! Bluestone Federal Credit Union celebrated with a prize drawing for an autographed photograph of former Minnesota Vikings running back Chuck Foreman! University Federal Credit Union had an “International Candy Tasting Bar” with selections from Mexico, India, Thailand, Japan, and the USA! Railway Credit Union served a variety of refreshments as well as an assortment of healthy snacks. Western Cooperative Credit Union served popcorn and cookies at each branch. AND – the SE605 Chapter of Credit Unions celebrated the day by dropping off treats to various organizations in the Sioux Falls and Madison area. “Cooperation among cooperatives is one of the seven guiding principles for credit unions,” said Joey Rotert, president of the chapter and VP of Marketing and Business Development at Levo Credit Union. “Coming together to give back to those who already give so much to our communities was something our chapter wanted to do this year for International Credit Union Day.” The chapter dropped off bagels in Sioux Falls at Community Blood Bank, PatientCare EMS, MED-Star Paramedic Ambulance Inc., Schools Bus Inc., and the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System. The chapter also gave cookies to Horizon Health Care in Howard, S.D. and Madison Regional Health System in Madison, S.D. Credit unions that are part of the chapter include Black Hills Federal Credit Union, Bluestone Federal Credit Union, East River Federal Credit Union, Explorers Credit Union, First Century Federal Credit Union, Levo Credit Union, Vermillion Federal Credit Union and Voyage Federal Credit Union. Once again, we thank you for supporting ICU Day! If we missed you on social media, we apologize in advance! Comments are closed.
