Fargo VA Federal Credit Union has witnessed the devastating effects of eating disorders, having multiple members who have been affected or whose children were affected. In addition, the credit union staff has both friends and relatives who work in this specific area. That is why they decided to give patients at the Sanford Eating Disorders & Weight Management Center a small piece of security and a bit of joy to help with the stress while they receive specialized treatment. The credit union asked for donations of new fleece tie blankets and collected them in the credit union’s office. They challenged each VA department to make at least one blanket to donate. When credit union representatives delivered the donations to the unit, staff and patients alike were elated to receive them. While most of the patients are teens between the ages of 12 and 14, the unit has seen patients as young as 2 years of age and even senior citizens. Nurses reported that they never receive donations in their unit, so this was a huge blessing! The Sanford Eating Disorders & Weight Management Center provides care for eating disorders, weight loss and pediatric feeding disorders with inpatient and partial hospital programs. They treat eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia, in addition to conditions related to autism and many other diagnoses. Comments are closed.
