At a recent meeting of the Dakota Credit Union Foundation, the board of directors approved two grant requests and a generous to donation to CUAid for hurricane relief efforts.
The Dakota Credit Union Foundation Board of Directors met on Thursday, October 20 for a regularly scheduled meeting. On the agenda were several requests for funding, which were approved by a majority vote.

  • Norstar FCU (Britton, SD) will receive a scholarship in the amount of $1,250 for the DakCU iLead@11 Emerging Leader Program. The funds will be used to pay for their operations manager and longtime staff member, Jessica Gerken, to attend the leadership development course.

  • Junior Achievement of South Dakota based in Sioux Falls will receive a $1,000 grant. The money will be used to prepare students by offering lessons and learning experiences that focus on financial decision making, career awareness, and an entrepreneurial mindset. In the 2021-22 school year, JA of SD impacted over 54,000 students, of which 29,000 were in Sioux Falls and Harrisburg communities. They anticipate similar results this school year.

  • The board also approved a $2,000 donation to the National Credit Union Foundation and CUAid for their Hurricane Ian relief fund. The National Credit Union Foundation has identified more than 350 credit union employees and volunteers who were impacted by the storm, and that number is expected to rise.

In other business, the e-bike raffle that concluded at the New Ideas Conference has netted approximately $5,000 for the Dakota Credit Union Foundation, and once again, the Dakota Credit Union Foundation thanks everyone for their ongoing support.

The purpose of the Dakota Credit Union Foundation is to enhance and advance the communities we serve through cooperative financial support. Our monetary support has been used to sponsor financial education events and financial literacy classroom programs; to provide scholarships to Dakota credit union professionals for professional development through education and certification programs, to support our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, and to provide financial support to the National Credit Union Foundation’s CUAid program for credit union employees impacted by natural disasters.
