The good work of our charitable foundation includes donations for financial hardships, further education for credit union professionals, financial well-being efforts, and more.
The Dakota Credit Union Foundation is pleased to announce that a total of $7,200 was distributed by the Foundation in 2021 in the form of cash donations and grants/scholarships. The endowments were presented for various needs, including financial education in schools, further education grants for credit union professionals, CUAid, and CMN Hospitals.

A $2,000 donation was made to CUAid to assist credit union members impacted by the devastating tornados that hit Kentucky and Tennessee and the more recent wildfires in Colorado. A $1,000 grant was made to Junior Achievement in Sioux Falls, for educating students in grades K – 12 about financial well-being through hands-on programs and volunteer presentations by local credit union professionals. Another $3,000 was presented to Sanford Children’s Hospital in Fargo, which was matched by CO-OP Financial Services. Finally, a scholarship/grant was made to one Dakota credit union professional in the amount of $1,200 to assist with the cost of attending the new DakCU Emerging Leader Program, iLead@11.

“As you can see, our social impact was far-reaching this year, and assisted multiple individuals in a variety of ways,” stated Darla Schafer, Manager of Flasher Community CU and Foundation Chair. “You can expect more great things from our charitable foundation this coming year – including additional educational grants for Dakota credit union professionals and other charitable organizations that put credit unions in the public spotlight as true financial first responders,” she added.

Also launched in 2021 was the Foundation’s new “Memorials” option, where you can make a cash donation to the Dakota Credit Union Foundation in someone’s name. The family will then receive a card notifying them of your gift, and the memorial will be listed on the Foundation’s page for all to see. This is a great way to honor a deceased loved one, former co-worker, or anyone who was dedicated to the credit union movement.

As we head into 2022 reinvigorated and inspired to continue our good work, be sure to watch The Memo for upcoming fundraising efforts for the Dakota Credit Union Foundation. Thank you for your continued support!
