Rapid City, S.D. – Black Hills Federal Credit Union (BHFCU) recently held a fundraiser to purchase items for deployed South Dakota troops. The effort raised $1,100, allowing the credit union to buy over 1,100 items.
“With input from veterans and active-duty military, we purchase items they’ve told us they miss about home while deployed,” said Michelle W., Troop Care Package project chair. “This year is extra special as we’re sending packages to a group that includes one of our very own BHFCU staff members!” With items ranging from salty snacks and cookies to chapstick, sunscreen and card games, BHFCU hopes the packages brighten the day of each deployed service member. Each year, BHFCU spreads the packages between deployed South Dakota Army National Guard and Ellsworth Air Force service members. BHFCU supports community needs through corporate contributions, employee fundraisers, and donations from members, staff, and community supporters to the Black Hills FCU Charitable Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Established in Rapid City in 1941, Black Hills Federal Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperative serving more than 92,000 members. The community-chartered credit union has locations in Rapid City, Custer, Eagle Butte, Hot Springs, Pierre, Sioux Falls, Spearfish, Sturgis, and Wall, South Dakota.
