Sanford Children’s Hospital has offered North Dakota credit unions the opportunity to have an exclusive partnership and naming rights to a new micropreemie care unit at the Fargo CMN Hospital. This unit will be one of only a handful in the country, positioning Sanford Children’s as a national leader in micro-preemie care – with the support of area credit unions. Most importantly, it will give local families the best care possible, close to home, and a visible, tangible reminder of credit unions’ commitment to community. While many of our credit unions have already pledged their support to make this happen, we need more! Nearly everyone knows someone whose life has been impacted by a premature birth. Some stories have happy endings, and today, we are pleased to share the story of one of our own credit union professionals, whose life was impacted by the care at a local neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Holly Steier is a marketing representative at Western Cooperative Credit Union’s Dickinson, ND branch, and is a board member for the Dakota Credit Union Foundation. Her son, Kamryn, was born six weeks early, was just 17 inches long, and weighed in at 4 pounds 2 ounces. Kamryn spent his first nineteen days on Earth in the NICU unit. He also suffered some birth defects, but is receiving ongoing care by the wonderful doctors at Sanford Health in both Fargo and Dickinson. While the beginning was very rough, Holly says the entire medical staff was absolutely amazing, and very caring, always answering their questions any time, day or night. Kamryn is now 16 years old, and enjoys playing soccer and golf. “We are so fortunate to have a Children’s Hospital in North Dakota that strives to provide the very best care for our most vulnerable and precious children,” Holly stated. “I urge all credit unions to join us in making North Dakota a national leader in micropreemie care by making a financial pledge to this amazing project, demonstrating how credit unions truly have a commitment to their communities.” Thank you to the following credit unions that have pledged financial support for our North Dakota CU4Kids Micropreemie Care Unit. If you are interested in learning more about how your credit union can help, please contact Shawn Brummer or Lindsey Hefta. We have many fundraising ideas, and your pledge can be stretched over the span of several years, and can begin next year, or even after! Our hope is that every North Dakota credit union will pledge to support this campaign.
