The Hail Mary: OCC Intercedes on Illinois Interchange Law
The Illinois interchange law received some recent intervention from the Office of Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). In case you missed it, last year the State of Illinois passed the Illinois Interchange Fee Prohibition Act (IFPA), which required that no portion of the interchange fee for any consumer transaction be charged on the portion of the sale subject to state sales tax. This law fundamentally changed the way financial institutions, including credit unions, could levy interchange fees. Read more here.
