Happy Summer! I trust you had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend, celebrating with family and friends. A special congratulations to all the graduates across the Dakotas who have completed their high school or college education, what a tremendous milestone and exciting step forward! We also have major news from Washington, D.C. to celebrate. This week, we took a major step forward in protecting the credit union tax status. On Thursday morning, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, and at no point during the legislative process from drafting and markup to amendment and final vote was the credit union tax exemption even mentioned. This is a huge win for our industry and a testament to consistent, focused advocacy and the power of a unified voice speaking in support of the credit union difference. Achieving our number one priority remaining out of the tax bill is especially significant given that just a few months ago, there were rumblings that “everything was on the table.” The fact that we emerged untouched speaks volumes about the respect and recognition we’ve built on Capitol Hill. Well done to all who helped champion this critical outcome. Tee Off in Support of Advocacy – PAC Golf Outings Ahead! Calling all golfers and credit union supporters mark your calendars and polish up those clubs! Our annual PAC golf outings are just around the corner, and these events are more than just a day on the greens. They are critical opportunities to support your state’s Governmental Affairs Committee and Political Action Committee (PAC). Your participation helps fund our collective advocacy efforts, pushing for a more favorable legislative and regulatory environment that allows credit unions to thrive.
Honoring Our Outstanding Achievers We continue to celebrate the remarkable individuals who were recognized during our recent DakCU Summit. This week, I’m proud to highlight several Individual Achievement Award recipients who exemplify dedication, innovation, and leadership within our movement:
Each of these individuals has demonstrated unwavering commitment to their credit unions and communities. Their achievements inspire us all, and on behalf of the entire association, I extend our heartfelt congratulations and gratitude for your service. Additionally, a special congratulations to Gail Broer and her entire team at M-O FCU for earning the coveted Growth & Progress Award recognition presented annually to just one Dakota credit union for exceptional success in asset, share, loan, and membership growth. Outstanding work! We’ll continue to feature more Summit award winners in upcoming issues of the Memo, so stay tuned! Save the Date: CU Professionals Forum & Foundation Golf Scramble Looking ahead, we’re excited to host our CU Professionals Forum and Foundation Golf Scramble on August 12–13 in Fargo. This two-day event is a fantastic opportunity for professional development, networking, and giving back. Best of all, 100% of the proceeds from the golf outing will once again benefit Sanford Children’s Hospital in Fargo through our CU4Kids Micropreemie Care Unit initiative. Details and registration will be available soon, but for now, please mark your calendars and plan to join us for what promises to be another impactful event. Thank you for your continued dedication to the credit union movement. Your engagement, whether on the front lines of advocacy or in service to your members, continues to drive our collective success. Let’s keep the momentum going! Warm regards, DakCU President/CEO
