We’re pleased to share encouraging news out of Washington, D.C. Yesterday, the U.S. Senate Finance Committee released the initial text of its portion of the reconciliation bill, and importantly, it includes no changes to the credit union tax status. Full legislative language for H.R. 1 is expected in the coming days. America’s Credit Unions, working in close collaboration with state leagues—including DakCU—and credit unions nationwide, engaged every member of the Senate Finance Committee leading up to this release. Our joint outreach included sharing the recent independent economic impact study and reinforcing the unique, not-for-profit structure and value of credit unions. We extend our thanks to Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Finance Committee Chairman Mike Crapo for their recognition and continued support of the credit union difference. We will remain vigilant and active as this legislation advances, and we encourage all advocates to stay engaged through the Don’t Tax My Credit Union campaign. Staff Announcement – Chesney Garnos Resignation Chesney Garnos, Executive Director of Government Affairs, has submitted her resignation effective July 25, 2025. Chesney has accepted a new opportunity outside of the credit union movement in a non-conflicting advocacy role. From the very beginning, Chesney brought passion, purpose, and political acumen to our government affairs work. Her leadership has expanded our advocacy footprint in South Dakota, cultivated strong relationships with policymakers, and elevated the visibility of credit unions in both Pierre and Washington, D.C. While we’re sad to see her leave, we are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and grateful for her service. DakCU will be posting the position in the coming days, with the goal of onboarding a new advocacy leader in advance of our Fall Legislative/Regulatory Hike-the-Hill event in September. In the meantime, our advocacy efforts remain fully supported and uninterrupted. Please join me in thanking Chesney for her meaningful contributions and wishing her continued success.
