Jeff Olson DakCU, President/CEO, Lacey Fetsch, DakCU Board Chair, & Scott Simpson Scott Simpson to Lead America’s Credit Unions Beginning November 3 By now, you have likely heard that Scott Simpson, president/CEO of the California, Nevada, and Utah Credit Union Leagues, has been named the next president/CEO of America’s Credit Unions, effective November 3. I have had the privilege of knowing Scott personally for more than 17 years. Earlier this year, he worked directly with our board as the facilitator of DakCU’s 2025–2027 Strategic Planning Session. His insight and leadership were invaluable in shaping our vision for the future. From my firsthand experience, Scott is a smart, forward-thinking, and highly respected servant leader. His deep expertise in advocacy and association leadership has left a lasting mark at both the state and national levels. Importantly, Scott understands the power of collaboration among leagues, credit unions, and industry partners alike and he brings the vision and skill needed to guide our movement into its next chapter. We look forward to working closely with Scott to strengthen our unified voice and continue advancing a vibrant, effective, member-focused credit union system. In his own words, Scott shared: “It’s humbling to share that I will be joining America's Credit Unions as President and CEO in November. This is an organization with a powerful mission and an even more powerful community—delivering on our original promise by serving 144 million Americans through not-for-profit, member-owned financial institutions that put people over profits. As someone who’s spent my career at the intersection of policy, advocacy, and public service, I’m eager to stand shoulder to shoulder with our incredible members and the credit union advocacy family to protect what makes credit unions special while building an even stronger, unified voice for the future. Let’s get to work.” We congratulate Scott on this exciting appointment and look forward to his leadership. Policy Spotlight: Ending Debanking Practices Last week, President Trump signed an Executive Order to address “debanking” the practice of financial institutions refusing to serve entire industries based on political or social considerations. Senator Kevin Cramer, a long-time champion of fair access to financial services, applauded the move, noting that “momentum is building toward ending banks’ political discrimination.” Senator Cramer continues to lead the charge through his Fair Access to Banking Act, which has more than 40 cosponsors. The legislation seeks to codify protections ensuring that financial institutions make individual risk-based decisions, rather than broadly excluding lawful industries such as firearms, ammunition, energy production, cryptocurrency, and others. This is a significant policy issue for our industry, as it reinforces the principle that access to financial services should be fair, consistent, and free of political discrimination. We will continue to monitor and keep our members updated on these important developments. Labor of Love: Day of Giving – August 27 On Wednesday, August 27, America’s Credit Union Museum will host its annual Labor of Love: Day of Giving, a campaign honoring the grassroots leaders and everyday people who built the credit union movement from the ground up. This year’s campaign will support the Museum’s newest exhibit, “Woven in History: A Tapestry of Unsung Heroes,” which celebrates the behind-the-scenes champions who helped shape our movement. The goals of this special one-day campaign are to:
I encourage you to participate in this effort to honor our past, preserve our stories, and inspire future generations of credit union leaders. You can learn more or post your Unsung Hero Story here. Congratulations to Lindsey and Annie for representing DakCU and sharing their expertise with the broader communications community! Upcoming DakCU Fall Events
As we welcome new leadership at America’s Credit Unions, defend fair access to financial services, and prepare for a full season of DakCU Fall events and programming, I am reminded once again that our movement’s strength lies in unity, advocacy, and community.
