As we continue our mission to champion credit unions across the Dakotas, this week’s message is a mix of critical advocacy, impactful leadership transitions, upcoming events, and ongoing celebrations that highlight the true cooperative spirit of our movement. Urgent Call to Action: Help Us Protect Our Tax-Exempt Status Dakota credit union CEOs and leaders—we need your voice now. The Dakota Credit Union Association, representing all of the credit unions and nearly 2,400 employees serving over 557,000 members across North and South Dakota, is sounding the alarm on renewed tax reform efforts in Washington, D.C. In recent weeks, proposals have surfaced that could threaten our federal tax exemption—a core component of what enables credit unions to return value to members through lower loan rates, higher savings dividends, and reduced fees. During our Hill visits this March, we appreciated the opportunity to share how our unique, not-for-profit structure benefits communities throughout the Dakotas. But we must reinforce that any attempt to remove our tax exemption is not just a tax on credit unions—it’s a tax on our members. With more than 55 affiliated CEOs leading both state and federally chartered credit unions in the Dakotas, your collective voice carries immense weight. We are preparing a sign-on letter to our congressional delegation urging them to stand strong in support of credit unions. Please join us in signing this critical letter. Your participation is vital to protecting our members and preserving our cooperative model. More information and instructions on how to sign the letter will be included in the Memo on Thursday. April is Youth Month and Financial Literacy Month Throughout April, we celebrate #CUYouthMonth and National Financial Literacy Month, emphasizing our year-round commitment to the financial well-being of our members.
