by John Alexander, Director of Legislative & Regulatory Affairs On the evening of Tuesday, May 14, the DakCU advocacy team hosted the first-ever “Stack the PAC” event, kicking of the 2024 Summit at Grand Falls Casino and Resort. More than 100 attendees gathered poolside for this invitation-only soiree and evening of socializing, recognition, and raising awareness about CUPAC and CULAC—the Credit Union Political and Legislative Action Committees dedicated to supporting state and federal level candidates who support a favorable environment for credit unions. Each of our two states operates its own PAC, overseen by their respective Governmental Affairs Committees. The goal of CUPAC and CULAC is to help elect officials who will foster a thriving environment for credit unions. At the "Stack the PAC" social, we celebrated our past year's supporters, with special recognition given to the 2023 “Champions.” Dawn Van Ash, CEO of Oahe FCU accepted the SD award. Railway CU was the ND winner; Steve Davis from First Community CU accepted the award on behalf of Railway. We also received a “heads up” on the legislative horizon with upcoming election insights from Trey Hawkins, Deputy Chief Advocacy Officer at America’s Credit Unions. (Photo below, right.) Join in on the silent auction action at Summit! One final reminder, the silent auction continues today until 8:00 p.m. Funds raised from this annual event supports our Roger Heacock Scholarship Fund, which provides financial assistance to credit union professionals in the Dakotas to attend the national Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) in Washington, DC and our fall Hike the Hill event. THANK YOU to all our credit unions in North and South Dakota who have contributed a prize. Looking to participate?
