Members of the South Dakota Central Chapter of Credit Unions recently made a $300 donation to the Pierre chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), an organization made up of volunteers dedicated to building, assembling, and delivering bunk beds to children and families in need.
SHP believes all children deserve a safe, comfortable place to lay their heads to aid in proper physical, emotional and mental support. SHP started like many other charities, in a garage, when around Christmas time, one bed was built for a single family. Since there was leftover wood from the original bed, the idea of building beds for more children and families in need quickly developed into something a whole lot more. There are now over 250 local chapters nationwide! In addition to providing beds, SHP also provides pillows and bedding. To provide the $300 donation, the Central Chapter raised funds through 50/50 drawings. Credit unions that participated in the fundraiser included: Dakotaland Federal Credit Union; Dakota Rail Line Federal Credit Union; HB Telco FCU; Huron Area Education FCU; M-O Federal Credit Union (all from Huron, SD) and Oahe Federal Credit Union (from Pierre, SD); along with the Pierre branch of Black Hills Federal Credit Union, which is an associate member.
