Sanford Health Fargo recently celebrated the grand opening of the Credit Unions for Kids Micropreemie Unit at Sanford Children’s, thanks to the incredible generosity of 20 North Dakota credit unions. This new specialized unit is designed to provide critical care for the region’s most fragile newborns babies born before 26 weeks gestation or weighing less than 28 ounces. The unit includes four rooms and six beds, specifically built to support the unique developmental needs of micropreemies. It also offers a welcoming space for families to connect with and support one another during their NICU journey. As a special tribute, Bode, a former Sanford NICU baby who was born at 24 weeks weighing just 1 pound, 9 ounces and spent 128 days in the NICU, drew the purple heart featured on donor plaques. Purple is the symbolic color for raising awareness about premature birth. The unit was made possible through a $500,000 cumulative pledge by North Dakota credit unions in partnership with Children’s Miracle Network and the Sanford Health Foundation. The gift reflects the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” and highlights the strong commitment to supporting local communities. A grand opening celebration took place on Thursday, May 15, at Sanford Medical Center Fargo, where credit union supporters, medical staff, and community members gathered to mark the occasion.
Together, these credit unions are making a lasting impact on the lives of the tiniest patients and their families. Thank you for helping bring world-class neonatal care closer to home!
