by Shawn Marie Brummer, Communications Specialist I once heard a story about Steve Jobs, the creative genius behind Apple Corporation. According to the tale, he would often stare at his reflection in the mirror in the morning and ask, "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" Sadly, for many people, that answer is “no." But there is a potential bright spot on the horizon for them, in an industry that is constantly seeking employees with a desire to make a difference. Now, I’ve been working in the credit union industry for more than 20 years – so I might be a little biased. However, I can assure you, I would not have spent 20 plus years doing something that I did not enjoy. If you are looking for a fulfilling career that allows you to have a real impact for the better on people’s lives, take it from me: A credit union career could be a great fit for you! It’s true that credit unions' main goal is to provide members with lower fees, lower rates on loans, and higher interest on deposit accounts. But there is so much more to these financial cooperatives! First, we give back to the community in many ways – through volunteer work, charitable fundraising, and improving people’s relationships with money. Which brings us to the topic of “Financial Well-Being For All.” You’ve probably heard the term “financial literacy” bounced around before. But Financial Well-Being is so much more. It’s about how people FEEL about their money; it is when a person can meet their financial obligations – and make choices that really allow them to enjoy life. Imagine working in a career where you get to help people live better. Imagine a network of peers that all have that same goal at heart. And, imagine working with people who care about YOUR wellbeing too! Because credit unions are not-for-profit and member-focused, they put people over profits. It’s more than just a slogan – credit unions truly support family life, the community, and helping people achieve their financial goals. Because profits come second AFTER people, the work environment is generally less stressful than for-profit industries. The key to experiencing the opportunities of a career in the credit union industry is to begin working there as soon as possible! Credit unions offer a variety of career opportunities, from front-line tellers, to compliance, to accounting, marketing, lending, and more! Are you ready to embark on a career that you can be excited about, where you can make a difference and feel good going to and from work each day? Would you like to work where everyone is appreciated and where values mean something? Then think about a credit union career and discover the #CUDifference! Contact your local credit unions today and visit their websites to find out what positions may be available now. *DakCU’s Marketing Director, Lindsey Hefta, has prepared some turn-key social media graphics that credit unions can use to promote their job openings.
