The 101st Legislative Session Starts Today The 101st South Dakota Legislative Session officially begins today with the Governor’s State of the State address. The South Dakota Governmental Affairs Committee (SD GAC) is actively monitoring nine bills that could impact credit unions and their members. While most proposals are still under review, SD GAC has taken a firm stance against House Bill 1026 (HB 1026), which introduces a new regulatory framework for property data collectors and property data collection companies. SD GAC believes HB 1026 creates an overly burdensome framework that does not align with the practical realities of property data collection in financial services. Instead of improving consumer protection, the bill risks adding costs and delays for South Dakotans seeking credit union services. As the session progresses, SD GAC will continue to advocate for legislation that supports credit unions and their members. For updates on our positions and monitored bills, stay tuned for post-meeting summaries or reach out directly with questions or concerns. Event Reminder: South Dakota Credit Union Legislative Day – February 11 Join us in Pierre on February 11 for South Dakota Credit Union Legislative Day! We’ll start the morning at the Capitol with coffee and donuts for legislators, followed by the SD GAC annual meeting, a group photo in the Rotunda, and formal introductions on the House and Senate floors. Later in the day, we’ll host a Legislative Leadership Panel and wrap up with a networking social to strengthen relationships with lawmakers and fellow credit union advocates. This is a free event for DakCU members, but we do ask you to kindly register by February 4, so we can plan accordingly. Please note: The room block at the ClubHouse Hotel and Suites is now full. If you still need a room, please reach out to me directly at [email protected] and I will help secure an additional room.
