Happy South Dakota Credit Union Legislative Day! Today is THE day! Credit union professionals from across the state of South Dakota will be joining together in Pierre for a full day of credit union legislative advocacy. The main event on today’s agenda will be our Legislative Social taking place this evening from 5:30 to 7:30pm at the Ramkota Hotel and Convention Center. The day began extra early for our SD Government Affairs Committee Chair, Joey Rotert, and me, as we hit the road at 6:00 a.m. in order to arrive in Pierre on time for today’s hearing in the House Commerce and Energy Committee. HB 1061, a bill I brought to your attention in last week’s Legislative Update addressing the appraiser advisory board, will be up in committee again this morning to make a few minor technical corrections. The rest of the SD Government Affairs Committee will be joining us at the Ramkota later this morning for a meeting, before we head back to the Capitol at 1:30 p.m. for a photo op with the rest of our attendees, and to be recognized in both legislative chambers. Then, it’s back to the Ramkota for a Credit Union Roundtable to give everyone an association update and to allow folks to have an open discussion and bounce ideas off their peers. With regard to credit union related bill tracking, our list continues to be fairly short, and you can always stay apprised on this DakCU website page. While the SD GAC is monitoring a few different bills, HB 1061 is the only piece of legislation the committee has officially taken a position on so far this session. I’m sure I sound like a broken record, but we expect bills to steadily roll in over the next week, in advance of bill filing deadlines for both legislators and committees. I look forward to seeing many of you later today, but if you aren’t able to join us be sure to pay close attention to our DakCU social media accounts as we highlight our various events throughout the day. We will also provide a recap of today’s events in the Memo this Friday, so be sure to keep an eye out for that! If you have any questions about today’s events or any other advocacy issues, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Comments are closed.
