by Chesney Garnos, Director of Political & Grassroots Affairs Excitement is building as spots are quickly filling up for our annual fall Legislative and Regulatory Hike the Hill event! Taking place September 9 – 12 in Washington, DC, this event offers a unique opportunity to engage directly with key policymakers impacting our credit unions in the Dakotas. Now is the perfect time to consider joining us for one of the final spots in this year’s impactful event as a first-time (or repeat) attendee! What to Expect: This year's Hike the Hill will follow a dynamic schedule, kicking off with sessions at the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) on Tuesday. Wednesday’s itinerary includes visits to Capitol Hill where participants will meet with elected officials. It's a fantastic opportunity to make your voice heard, ensuring that credit union perspectives are considered in legislative and regulatory decisions. The intimate setting fosters meaningful dialogue and can significantly shape our advocacy efforts. You can also check out the recap in last year’s article to learn more about this unique experience! NEW Evening Social Event: Baseball? Count this batter in! This year, we’ve added a new event to Tuesday evening at our hotel’s scenic rooftop venue “Top of the Yard” (shown in photo below) where we will host our debriefing and enjoy stunning views of the city, a free drink, and the camaraderie of watching a Washington Nationals baseball game. Yes, that’s right! The rooftop oversees the Washington Nationals stadium, perfect for catching a baseball game and discussing our game plan for addressing policy makers in Washington, DC. Accommodations: We have a room block at the Hampton Inn & Suites Washington DC Navy Yard, located at 1265 1st Street SE. Rooms are priced at $269 per night, plus taxes. Book your stay by calling (202) 800-1000 and mention "Dakota Credit Union Association" to secure our group rate. Not only does this hotel have some great views, but it is also within walking distance to our nation’s Capital.
Financial Assistance: To support participation, we offer the Roger Heacock Hike the Hill Scholarship Program. Financial assistance is available to help cover costs for those who need it. We encourage you to apply early, as funding is allocated based on the number of qualified applicants. Application form and details can be found here.
