Week 3 Kicks Off at the SD Legislative Session This week marks the beginning of Week 3 of the South Dakota legislative session, and the pace continues to pick up! As of last Friday, 197 bills have been filed, reflecting an increase of 41 bills since Week 1. We anticipate even more filings this week, with the January 30th deadline for unlimited bill introductions fast approaching. Over the next two weeks, we expect additional bill filings related to the second iteration of the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), specifically Article 8 on investment securities, along with other topics pertinent to the financial industry. Want to see what we’re tracking so far? Visit our bill tracker at dakcu.org/bill-tracking.html. As previously noted, this year is historic as South Dakota celebrates its 100th legislative session, reaching several significant milestones. Yesterday, Governor Larry Rhoden was sworn in as the 34th Governor of South Dakota in a private ceremony in Pierre. He succeeds former Governor Kristi Noem, who has been appointed U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security. Our team extends our best wishes to Governor Rhoden as he leads the state into the future.
