Meet DakCU’s new Director of Political & Grassroots Affairs and learn how we’re preparing for the 2027 legislative session and strengthening North Dakota credit unions’ voice.

A New Voice for North Dakota Credit Unions
I’m excited to join the Dakota Credit Union Association (DakCU) team as the Director of Political & Grassroots Affairs. My focus is straightforward: making sure North Dakota’s credit unions have a strong voice at the Capitol and that policymakers understand the important role credit unions play in communities across our state.

While the 2027 legislative session may still be months away, advocacy doesn’t wait for the Legislature to convene. The time between sessions is an important opportunity to build relationships, educate policymakers, and identify issues before they become legislation.

Preparing for the 2027 Legislative Session
One of my priorities over the coming months will be identifying issues that could impact North Dakota credit unions and their members and making sure we are prepared to address them. That means listening to credit unions, staying engaged with policymakers, monitoring conversations at the Capitol, and working closely with DakCU’s Governmental Affairs Committee as we prepare for the 2027 session.
 
Staying Connected with America’s Credit Unions
Our advocacy work doesn’t stop at the state line. I’ll also be working closely with America’s Credit Unions to stay informed on federal issues that could impact North Dakota credit unions and their members.

Federal policy decisions can have a significant effect on the day-to-day operations of credit unions. Staying connected to what is happening in Washington allows us to better understand those issues, keep North Dakota’s perspective at the table, and ensure our state and federal advocacy efforts are working together.

The Issues We’re Watching
As we look toward the next legislative session, we’ll continue monitoring issues that could affect credit unions and their members, including regulatory burden, financial fraud, consumer protection, access to financial services, and the continued strength of the credit union charter.

But advocacy is about more than legislation. It’s about relationships. Between now and the next session, I look forward to meeting with credit union leaders, visiting with legislators, and making sure the credit union perspective is understood throughout North Dakota.
