DakCU President & CEO Joe Keller shares his first Memo message following his inaugural week at  Summit. He reflects on his warm welcome and his focus on listening, learning, and serving Dakota’s credit unions.
As I reflect on my first week serving Dakota’s credit unions at our Annual Meeting & Summit (May 12–14 in South Dakota), I feel truly grateful to be part of the DakCU family. What an incredible way to begin this journey. From my first DakCU Board meeting to connecting with hundreds of credit union leaders, professionals, and partners throughout the week, the experience was both energizing and meaningful.

The week was a whirlwind of activity, conversations, and learning opportunities. While stepping into a new role at such a fast pace can be challenging, I honestly cannot imagine a better way to get started. Being surrounded by individuals who are passionate about serving their members and strengthening their communities reinforced everything that makes the credit union movement so special.

My wife and I were deeply touched by the generosity, kindness, and warm welcome we received from everyone. The hospitality throughout the Summit made us feel at home in the Dakotas right away. Those personal connections and conversations meant a great deal, and they confirmed that this organization is built on relationships, collaboration, and a shared commitment to helping others succeed.

One thing became very clear to me during the Summit: Dakota credit unions are strong, innovative, and deeply committed to the people and communities they serve. Across every discussion, I heard optimism, resilience, and a willingness to work together to tackle challenges and seize new opportunities. That spirit of collaboration will continue to be one of DakCU’s greatest strengths moving forward.

As I begin this new chapter, my focus is simple - to listen, learn, and serve. I want to spend time understanding the unique needs of credit unions across North and South Dakota while building strong relationships throughout the movement. I believe the best ideas come from working together, and I look forward to partnering with all of you to continue advancing advocacy, innovation, education, and member value.
I also want to thank the DakCU Board, team members, and everyone who helped make the Summit such a success. The planning, leadership, and dedication behind the scenes were evident throughout the event.

I am looking forward to the future of DakCU and am honored to serve alongside all of you. Thank you again for the warm welcome, your encouragement, and your commitment to the credit union movement. I look forward to meeting many more of you in the weeks and months ahead.
