Discover Your Unique Money Personality

10/2/2025

Discover your unique money personality this October with North Dakota’s Money Personality Challenge.
By Bank of North Dakota

Take the challenge, share your takeaways, and nominate others to do it too. During the month of October, the state of North Dakota is encouraging North Dakotans to discover their unique money personalities on Smart with My Money.

The October Money Personality Challenge will inspire others to take action toward becoming financially literate and raise awareness of a free resource. To support the effort, community and business leaders, public officials and others will create an account on the Smart with My Money website. They will take the Money Personality Quiz, share takeaways, and nominate others to do the same.

Residents statewide can participate in the challenge by creating their free account. Plus, after they complete a financial checkup and take the Money Personality Quiz, the site will provide personalized learning recommendations based on their answers.

Understanding how their money personality impacts their financial decisions, along with taking advantage of the recommended learning, can help them at any stage in their financial journey. The site has information for people ages 15 and up and covers both educational and behavioral aspects of financial literacy. Users can learn at their pace while picking and choosing their topics or following the recommendations. It’s easy!

“Financial stress can impact a person’s mental and physical health. This can affect different aspects of their life including their employment,” said State Treasurer Thomas Beadle. “For employers across the state, participating in the Money Personality Challenge is a no-cost way to show employees that they care about their financial well-being. The site is filled with high quality, easy-to-understand material.”

“North Dakotans scored a C in financial literacy according to the most recent study by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA),” shared Bank of North Dakota (BND) President and CEO Don Morgan. “BND is committed to helping the state become the most financial literate in the nation. Our leaders and employees will be participating in the challenge to raise awareness and promote a helpful resource.”

The “Smart with My Money” effort and SmartWithMyMoney.nd.gov were announced in April 2024 when leaders of 11 state agencies kicked off Financial Literacy Month in North Dakota. The goal of the “Smart with My Money” effort is to make North Dakota the most financially literate state by 2027.

North Dakota high schools, colleges, businesses or other organizations interested in joining the effort may contact Lance Hill for information.

BND is a DakCU CAP (Cooperative Alliance Program) member. As a a state-owned-run financial institution based in Bismarck, ND, their mission is to deliver quality, sound financial services that promote and support agriculture, commerce, and industry in North Dakota.
