Welk Earns CCUB
Barb Welk, a member of the North Star Community Credit Union Board of Directors, has earned her Certified Credit Union Board Member (CCUB) designation through America’s Credit Unions. This comprehensive certification program is designed to strengthen board leadership by equipping participants with the knowledge and confidence to effectively navigate governance responsibilities, collaborate on complex decisions, and help guide the strategic direction of their credit union.
 
Earning the CCUB designation reflects Barb’s commitment to continued learning and excellence in board service. Her dedication to expanding her expertise supports strong governance and thoughtful leadership for North Star Community Credit Union. We’re proud to recognize Barb’s accomplishment and grateful for the leadership she brings in helping shape the future of our credit union.
 
Voyage FCU Awards $13,125 Grant to Kingdom Boundaries
Voyage Federal Credit Union, in partnership with the Federal Home Loan Bank (FHLB) of Des Moines, has awarded a $13,125 grant through the Member Impact Fund to Kingdom Boundaries Prison Aftercare. The funding will support improvements to a residential facility, including window replacements, enhancing safety, energy efficiency, and overall living conditions for individuals transitioning out of incarceration.

Kingdom Boundaries provides transitional housing, mentorship, and support services to help returning citizens rebuild their lives and reintegrate into the community. The Member Impact Fund program supports affordable housing and community development initiatives, with FHLB Des Moines awarding more than $12.9 million in matching grants this year across its region.

HAEFCU Announces “Ca$h for the Classroom” Recipients
The Huron Area Education Federal Credit Union (HAEFCU) has announced the winners of its spring semester “Ca$h for the Classroom” program, which aims to support their member educators. This semester, Michelle Vissia, a 5th grade Special Services teacher at Washington 4-5 Center, and Marisa Krekelberg, a Special Education teacher at McKinley Learning Center, were each awarded $150 to purchase classroom supplies. With a board made up of current and former school employees, HAEFCU recognizes the unique challenges teachers face and remains committed to supporting education. The program has provided valuable assistance to educators over the years, helping enhance classroom experiences and student learning.

The drawing is held twice annually, with the next opportunity scheduled for this fall. Educators in Beadle, Hand, Kingsbury, Sanborn, and Spink counties who are members of HAEFCU are encouraged to apply by completing a short application.
