By Black Hills Federal Credit Union Black Hills Federal Credit Union (BHFCU) believes in supporting the passions of its employees. So much so that this year, they’re matching dollar-for-dollar the funds raised by the Community Action Team, an employee-led charitable giving program. In the second quarter, the BHFCU team focused its efforts on helping animals through their annual Raising for Rescues Supply Drive. To avoid burying the lead, the best boys and girls were showered with love. Here’s a glimpse of the incredible impact BHFCU employees made in Q2.
Read on to learn more about the who, how, and what. The year began by asking employees what organizations they wanted to support. Always popular, many animal rescues and support organizations appeared on the list. All told, the Community Action Team landed on 17 rescues and support organizations to benefit from the 2025 Raising for Rescues Supply Drive. This year’s beneficiaries included Wakpa Waste’ Animal Shelter in Eagle Butte; the Oglala Pet Project in Kyle; PAWS in Pierre; Yellowstone Animal Shelter in Billings; Sioux Falls Humane Society, Almost Home Canine Rescue, and Big Paws Canine Foundation in Sioux Falls; and STARS, Battle Mountain Humane Society, West River Spay & Neuter Coalition, the Humane Society of the Black Hills, A Place for Meow Rescue, Border Paws, Nuisance Farm & Sanctuary, Hobo’s Healing Heart, Sturgis Animal Shelter, and Western Hills Humane Society in the Black Hills. The drive successfully collected needed supplies for dogs and cats. From food and treats to toys and blankets, the drive addressed the various needs of organizations across the communities BHFCU serves. The drive’s success would not have been possible without the generous support of several businesses that helped broaden the drive’s reach. Special thanks to Healthy Paws, Pet Pantry, Black Hills Bark Avenue, and Barks & Bubbles in Rapid City, SD; Woofers in Sturgis, SD; Lake Sharpe Pet Resort in Pierre, SD; and Runnings and Roxi & Co. in Sioux Falls, SD. Improving lives doesn’t just mean human ones! BHFCU employees love being able to help improve the lives of their furry friends. From helping finish a shelter’s outdoor kennels and expanding stalls for senior pigs to keeping pets in their loving homes when finances are tight and providing thousands of free and low-cost spay and neuters, the funds are already being put to good use. The drive is a small thank you for the critical work that rescues, shelters, and support organizations do day in and day out. BHFCU is dedicated to supporting its communities in a variety of ways, including sponsorships, employee fundraisers, and donations from members and community supporters to the Black Hills FCU Charitable Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
