DakCU shares updates on upcoming leadership and advocacy events, the New Ideas Conference, fraud prevention resources, NCUA record retention changes, and valuable dues-supported member resources.
By George McDonald, DakCU Chief Operating Officer

I hope you are enjoying summer and finding some time to unwind. I wanted to share a brief update on what we have been working on at your Association, along with the educational and networking opportunities ahead.

Leadership Exchange
We are very excited to have President & CEO of America’s Credit Unions Scott Simpson joining us in Bismarck, ND on September 22, for a dialogue with North Dakota and South Dakota credit union leaders, members of our Government Affairs Committees, and other advocacy leaders from across the Dakotas. This is a great opportunity for us to have conversation with Scott and talk to him about the unique challenges we face here in the Dakotas as credit unions be it small or large. Our credit unions are the most important voice for our local and national leaders to hear regarding legislative and regulatory issues so let’s fill the room with leaders and great discussion. The leadership exchange starts at 10am and will continue through lunch and the early afternoon.

Later that day, starting at 3 p.m., we will offer a free advocacy-focused workshop, that is open to all credit union members, designed for advocacy professionals and anyone who wants to become more engaged in the advocacy and relationship-building process. The session will provide valuable insight into how advocacy works, why it matters, and how credit unions of all sizes can play a meaningful role. We strongly encourage you to participate or send staff. The more people we have engaged, the stronger we are as a movement. This is also a great opportunity for members attending the New Ideas Conference to arrive a bit early and participate in this free pre-conference session.

After the workshop, we’ll gather at 5:30 p.m. for a social and fireside chat featuring Scott Simpson and DakCU President & CEO Joe Keller. They will discuss the importance of credit union engagement at the local, state, and national levels; the critical role associations play in protecting and advancing the credit union movement; and how every credit union can help shape our future.

New Ideas Conference
Speaking of the New Ideas Conference, registration is off and rolling and we’re excited about the outstanding lineup and a few new twists we’ve added including an Idea Marketplace, a Fintech product showcase, Solution Session and more. The conference kicks off Wednesday, September 23 at 8:30 a.m. in Mandan, ND and concludes by mid-day Thursday, September 24.

Registration Note: If you're already registered, or plan to register, for the New Ideas Conference, you can add on the free afternoon Advocacy Workshop and/or evening Social & Fireside Chat with Scott Simpson and Joe Keller to your registration today!

Don’t miss your chance to join us for Par for the PAC
A quick reminder - registration closes tomorrow for Par for the PAC! I encourage credit union leaders and advocates to take advantage of this opportunity to connect with colleagues, build relationships with policymakers, and support the advocacy efforts that protect and strengthen our movement. We hope to see you in Rapid City on August 4 for a great day of golf, networking, and advocacy.

Small Credit Union Roundtable
Also on the horizon is our Small Credit Union Roundtable, scheduled for October 20 in Watertown, South Dakota. Additional details and registration information will be available soon. We hope to see many of our smaller credit unions represented for what promises to be another valuable day of discussion and collaboration!

New Fraud Protection Partnership
We also continue our work to bring you solutions that will assist you with meeting your members’ needs and the challenges you face in the marketplace. We are very excited about our new partnership with Rippleshot a fraud detection platform.  Read more about Rippleshot here or reach out to me for more information.

Important Record Retention Updates Are Here
Last month, as part of its ongoing deregulation initiative, the NCUA issued a final rule introducing several significant changes to the vital records preservation requirements found in Part 749. These updates will impact how credit unions manage and maintain their record retention programs.

To help you stay informed and compliant, the Record Retention channel in InfoSight360 has been updated as well as the model policies in Chapter 10000 of your dues supporter resource CU PolicyPro to reflect the new requirements.

Have questions about what these changes mean for your credit union? You're not alone. This month's featured article breaks down the updates and answers several frequently asked questions surrounding the revised rule, including practical guidance on how the changes may affect your record retention program.

Log in to your InfoSight360 account to read the full article and access our comprehensive FAQ section under News & Announcements. Get the answers you need and ensure your policies and procedures remain aligned with the latest NCUA guidance. If you have questions or need assistance, contact the InfoSight360 support team at [email protected] or contact me directly.

And finally, if you are not familiar with CU PolicyPro or any of the other valuable dues-supported resources available through DakCU, including ViClarity our compliance partner or Jackson Lewis offering legal advice in the areas of labor and employment law please don’t hesitate to reach out. These resources represent significant value for your credit union, and we're committed to helping you maximize every benefit available through your Association.

Thank you for your continued support and engagement. We appreciate the opportunity to serve you and look forward to seeing many of you this fall.

Have a great rest of your week and a wonderful weekend!

George
