Insights and updates from George McDonald on what’s happening across DakCU, from events and advocacy to compliance updates, partnerships, and member resources.
By George McDonald, DakCU Chief Operating Officer

With summer now in full swing, we hope you’re finding time to enjoy the season with family and friends. While there’s plenty of summer fun to be had, the DakCU team is also hard at work putting the finishing touches on our fall education and networking events.

Mark your calendars for the New Ideas Conference, scheduled for September 23–24 in Bismarck. We’ll be launching registration and sharing program details very soon. We’re excited about the outstanding lineup of speakers, timely topics, and a few new twists that will make this year’s event both engaging and valuable for attendees.

Speaking of new twists, we are excited to announce that Scott Simpson, President & CEO of America’s Credit Unions, will be joining us in Bismarck on September 22, the day before New Ideas, for a special dialogue with credit union leaders, members of our North Dakota and South Dakota Government Affairs Committees, and other advocacy leaders from across the Dakotas.

In conjunction with Scott’s visit, we will also be offering advocacy-focused training opportunities for our members. We continue to hear from credit unions that want to become more engaged and better understand the advocacy and relationship-building process that helps establish strong connections with legislative and regulatory leaders. These sessions will provide valuable insight into how advocacy works, why it matters, and how credit unions of all sizes can play a meaningful role.

To cap off the day, we are planning a social gathering and fireside chat featuring Scott Simpson and DakCU President & CEO Joe Keller. Together, they will discuss the importance of credit union engagement at the local, state, and national levels, the critical role associations play in protecting and advancing the credit union movement, and how every credit union can become more involved in shaping our future.

We are finalizing the details for this exciting addition to our fall lineup, so watch for more information very soon. We look forward to seeing you in Bismarck this September.

On the regulatory front, the NCUA recently issued a final rule revising record preservation requirements for credit unions in the event of a catastrophic occurrence. America’s Credit Unions commented in support of the proposal, noting that it appropriately keeps the NCUA’s vital records preservation requirements focused on restoring member services and maintaining business continuity following a disaster, rather than expanding them into a broader records retention rule. More information on the final rule can be found here.

We also want to highlight some exciting enhancements to your dues-supported CU PolicyPro service. Keeping policies current and compliant just became easier. The new CU PolicyPro content editor is designed to help you update policies faster, maintain consistency, and streamline the review process so you can focus on content—not formatting. Here’s what’s new:
  • Import Content with Ease
  • Save Notes Independently
  • Multiple Viewing Options
  • Reduced Formatting Work
  • More Flexible Saving Options
  • Simplified Navigation Tools

These updates are designed to help you spend less time formatting and more time reviewing and customizing your policies.

And finally, if you are not familiar with CU PolicyPro or any of the other valuable dues-supported compliance and regulatory resources available through DakCU, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We would be happy to help you maximize the value of these member benefits.

Have a great rest of your week and weekend!

George
