Dakota Credit Union Association would like to remind our member credit unions of another dues supported service! Jackson Lewis, P.C. provides legal advice focused in the area of labor and employment law, to reduce workplace law risk. Jackson Lewis doesn’t just tell you what is legal – they will tell you what’s effective!
Those who attended the Annual Summit in May had the opportunity to hear from one of their attorneys, Christopher Hoyme, who was a featured presenter during several breakout sessions. During his informative presentations, attendees heard about the legalities of religious accommodations, non-compete agreements, AI and the impact on employers, the white-collar exemption rule, the pregnant workers fairness act, discrimination and litigation trends, and much more! It goes without saying, Jackson Lewis is well prepared to guide you through any employment issue. Jackson Lewis represents management exclusively in every aspect of employment, benefits, labor, and immigration law and related litigation. They understand the importance of having a workforce that reflects the various communities we serve, and with 61 locations, including one in South Dakota, they provide local knowledge backed by the support of a national firm known for generating practical solutions for clients facing litigation. With a proactive, preventive approach to dealing with employment issues, clients are placed in the best possible position to avoid lawsuits before they are filed. However, if a client is faced with defending a lawsuit, their approach is to respond quickly and aggressively – making Jackson Lewis a formidable opponent in the courtroom. Here's some recent analysis provided to DakCU by the firm: The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) issued its Final Rule to increase the minimum salary requirements for the “white collar” exemptions (executive, administrative, and professional) from minimum wage and overtime pay requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The Final Rule sharply increases the minimum salary level for the white-collar exemption to apply, and the increase will take effect in two stages over six months, beginning on July 1, 2024. Read more here. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued a Final Rule prohibiting non-competes. The much-anticipated action follows its 2023 proposed rule and review of over 26,000 public comments. The final rule is not yet effective and legal challenges already are looming, as it broadly bans all true non-compete clauses. What you need to know here. DakCU Member Weighs In!
